Holiday season calls for feasting and spending time with our loved ones. But it can also be a perfect time for fasting before and after the holidays to maintain the balanced approach to life.

Fasting is not about punishing our bodies but rather to set us free from everyday attachments to the body, mind, and surroundings.

In Sanskrit fasting is called as ‘upavasa’ meaning “to reside nearby”. Per Ayurveda, regular fasting connects us to our inner self ‘jeeva’ and makes us reside in our own true divinity.

Fasting stimulates the digestive fire (agni) which in turn efficiently burns the body’s fuel, producing less toxic waste (ama) in our bodies.
It’s important to break the fast properly. The most important thing to remember is to begin eating again gradually, slowly working your way up to solid foods.

Enjoy the holiday season and balance it with proper fasting!
