What Does Ayurveda Say To Eat In The Spring Season?

The best season of the year undoubtedly has to be the spring season! All of Mother Nature comes alive; everything around us is blooming and the birds are chirping…so pretty and energizing! To enjoy nature’s beautiful canvas, we need to know how to eat properly so that we don’t get bogged down with allergies, watery eyes, sneezing…
After coming back from my amazing trip to India, my body naturally started craving foods such as raw salads, juicy citrusy salad dressings, cruciferous veggies – all this helps to balance any kapha residues so I am really amazed that you can keep your body in balance by just following the Ayurvedic diet according to the changing seasons!
Here is a photo of my lunch salad I made with local organic cabbage leaves as a bowl with some spring greens, carrots, roasted squash and sprinkled with kapha balancing spices… Yum!
To make sure we digest
our spring salads completely and assimilate all the high-powered nutrients, I would strongly encourage buying local organically grown produce – you will know the difference as soon as you put it in your mouth! I don’t have to say anything…
I feel blessed to have a nearby farm that sells local organic produce at a reasonable price. Here is a quick photo of the produce I bought at the farm today.
To add some fun to my day I offered my local produce to the Lord of vayu, a.k.a. Hanuman who, according to Ayurveda, is the Lord responsible for balancing the vata dosha. So, to make sure my vata doesn’t get unbalanced eating raw and spring roughage…I offered it to Hanuman ji
…lol

The spring diet should balance the kapha residue left over from the winter season after eating those rich comfort foods of winter. The main tastes, called as rasas, focus on bitter, pungent, and astringent tastes in your diet.
A very simple way to bring these three rasas into your diet is to drink a spring detox tea which I call the Golden Tea
! This tea gets rid of the accumulated kapha and helps one get relief
from sinus infections, allergies and coughs.
Both ginger and turmeric are rhizomes and have been lauded for thousands of years in Ayurveda for their medicinal and culinary properties. Turmeric and ginger, both highly rich in antioxidants work synergistically to strengthen the digestive agni and increase the metabolism. The combination of ginger-turmeric works like a high-powered scrapper that scrapes away all the residue and toxic build-up of winter.
This tea has become quite popular in my Ayurveda Spring Detox workshops!
