Chia seeds are my favorite and they rank as super super-food on my list. These tiny looking ancient seeds are getting popular for every right reason from speeding up weight loss to boosting energy levels in intense workouts. In fact, I became quite popular in my Bikram Yoga studio after people saw me bring my water bottle filled with chia seeds!
Chia seeds were an important part of the Aztec and Mayan diet. The word “chia” actually means “strength” in the Mayan language. The Aztec warriors used Chia as their main source of fuel during conquests. These tiny seeds are in fact a superfood. It’s a complete protein (contains all amino acids we need). Rich in essential fatty acids, oh yes the fiber! Chia seeds have a balanced proportion of soluble and insoluble fiber. They are extremely hydrating due to their ability to absorb up to 9-10 times their weight in water. These tiny seeds have loads of nutritional punch!

This drink recipe came to me while struggling to do the Trikonasana (Triangle pose) in one of my yoga classes. You know, Triangle is the pinnacle of the standing series and comes almost at the halfway in the 90 minute Bikram Yoga class. Every time, I reached this point my body was ready to give up…no focus, profusely sweating, and lack of energy to move on, in spite of hydrating well before the class.

Someone wise said this:  The moment you are ready to quit is usually the moment right before the miracle happens! For me, this drink has been a miracle – it’s helping me perform much much better and enjoy this blessed practice of Yoga.
