For past few days have been sneezing in the mornings, feels like some kind of allergy and wanted to make something to get it out of my system. So, this morning naturally was craving for cilantro and guess what cilantro combats allergies and has tons of anti-bacterial properties that are capable of destroying viruses and germs that cause colds.
I love the freshness of cilantro and is a delight to have in juices and smoothies. This is a perfect herb to include in summers as it reduces pitta and is very cooling to the body. Here is more on ayurvedic benefits of cilantro.

I would recommend using cilantro only in the mornings in your juices or smoothies, this herb is very beneficial but there are certain precautions to keep in mind. Consuming too much cilantro in juices/smoothies can cause adverse effects on the stomach like diarrhea. Also, you need to be careful what you mix with cilantro, not all fruits go well with this herb. The best combination of fruits are citrus like oranges, limes/lemons.
Spinach goes well with cilantro in juices if you want to dilute the cilantro flavor. My favorite combo is cilantro with carrots which makes it very palatable. And again carrots are excellent to have in summer per Ayurveda, cooling to the body adding loads of nutrients.
Today I made it little different by adding red bell pepper. Combination of cilantro, carrots, bell pepper brings out a sweet and zesty flavor, adding a nice squeeze of lime gives out a nice tartness. All these ingredients make this juice super-alkalizing!!

- 1/2 bunch Cilantro
- 2 Carrots
- 1/4 Red Bell Pepper
- 1/2 Lime/Lemon juice
- 1/4 inch Ginger (optional)
I use my Vitamix for this and then squeeze the pulp out in a nut bag to make it in a juice. You could have this straight out as a smoothie but today was in a mood for having juice.
