Functions of Samana and Apana Vata
The organic Ayurvedic spices in this tea especially balance the samana and apana vata (these are the two of the five vata types). One of the main function of samana vata is, it governs the peristaltic movement of the digestive system. When imbalanced it results in poor assimilation of foods, resulting in gas, and indigestion. Apana vata’s main function is, it governs the elimination of wastes and when this gets imbalanced it results in constipation, diarrhea, intestinal cramps.
Whenever I experience any vata-imbalance symptom, I make this tea and it brings me great relief. This is such a simple tea to make at home, once you have all the ingredients. It tastes great so you can easily have this tea more than once but limit it to not more than 3 cups a day. The spices chosen here help calm the air element in our bodies and at the same re-kindle the digestive fire (agni) to aid in optimal digestion
Two Ways of making this Vata Tea
First method is using the powdered spices and the second method using the whole spices.
The picture below has the recipe for one cup of tea. First, powder all the ingredients in a blender and then boil one cup of water. Once it starts to boil good (with big bubbles) switch off the heat and add the tea powder and let it steep for about 15 mins. Enjoy it with a natural sweetener like pure maple syrup.
Here is the second way of making this Ayurvedic Vata Tea. Same exact ingredients used in whole form and not ground into powder. The picture below shows how to make it step by step. Using whole spices instead of the powder form is easier to make for sure and you use them fresh every time! Both work equally well it can just be your personal preference. Also, using the spices in powder form might be more economical…
Ayurvedic spices have the  power  to heal and balance but at the same time they are pretty potent ,  so having them in moderation is key.
Where to buy organic spices?
Another important thing to remember is using the best quality organic spices in your diet as sadly most of the spices we get today are adulterated. I personally buy mine at Banyan Botanicals which sells USDA certified best quality Ayurvedic spices and herbs.
